The Sunderland summer signing believes the Black Cats are getting better.
Marc Wilson has told Sunderland’s official website that he has noticed a “big improvement” in terms of recent performances compared to when he arrived.
The Republic of Ireland defender joined the Black Cats for free on deadline day but Wilson is still awaiting his first win in a Sunderland shirt – four defeats and one draw in the five Championship games he has played.
The former Bournemouth centre-back joined on the same day as Callum McManaman and Jonny Williams and neither of those two have featured extensively either, prompting suggestions that the lack of football at their previous clubs is a factor in their slow starts to life on Wearside.
Simon Grayson’s side have only managed one victory in 12 Championship outings this season but recent draws with Preston and QPR offers some cause for optimism.
And Wilson says that he and his team-mates are playing to a higher standard now compared to when he joined.
“The fixtures I played when I first arrived, I saw a big improvement in performances both from myself and the rest of the lads,” he told Sunderland’s website.
Yes, it’s satisfying (to be playing) but it’s been disappointing to lose football matches. You’re always disappointed to lose, which any footballer will tell you.
“I’m concentrating on the next game and looking forward all the time. Slowly but surely, I know I’ll get there, as will the team as a whole.”
Sunderland, who visit Brentford this weekend, sit 23rd in the Championship, with eight points from a possible 36.
