Marc Roberts should favour the stability of Barnsley over Sunderland.
Marc Roberts of Barnsley in action
According to The Sun earlier this month, Barnsley defender Marc Roberts is a transfer target for Sunderland.
Roberts is valued a £5 million by Barnsley after his impressive performances this campaign, but he should have second thoughts about making the move.
The 26-year-old could of course secure a better financial package and lucrative signing on fee if he makes the transfer, but from a footballing perspective, Sunderland could be Roberts’ better option.
He need only look at the tumultous season Aston Villa and Norwich have had upon their relegation to the Championship to realise what may lie ahead at Sunderland on their first season back in England’s second tier.
They lack the vibrancy of Newcastle under Rafa Benitez, who would never have been relegated in the first place if the Spaniard was appointed earlier.

Roberts should stick with Barnsley and enjoy the stability he has at the Tykes.
He might sign for David Moyes, but the way the Scotsman is going at Sunderland, its unlikely he will last the season if results do not immediately go their way in the Championship, and then where will he be?
He can look to continue to help Barnsley build and push for a play-off spot next year, while taking into account that if he keeps performing, a Premier League team will come calling instead.
