Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Ajax defender.
Ajax Sporting Director Marc Overmars delivered a huge boost for Tottenham when speaking exclusively to Fox Sports, admitting that it will be impossible to keep hold of their prized asset Matthijs de Ligt at the end of this season.
According to a report from the Guardian, the £52 million-rated 19-year-old was a target for Spurs during the summer transfer window, but he ended up staying in Holland.
Tottenham do have plenty off options in central defence, but with Toby Alderweireld’s future far from certain, the addition of another centre-back at the end of this season would be a wise move for Mauricio Pochettino.
And the north London outfit have received a huge boost concerning their hopes of signing De Ligt.
Ajax Sporting Director Marc Overmars responded to Fox Sports reporters when asked whether his club will be able to keep hold of the exciting young defender next summer:
“We are realistic. After this season, we will lose two or three players. They have such a high level that we cannot keep them. However it’s important for us to reinvest the money and replace the players who leave at the end of the season as best as possible.”
According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Ajax value the Dutchman at £52 million, and in today’s market, Tottenham should not hesitate to meet the Dutch club’s valuation.
