2025 was a remarkable season for the Marquez family, with Marc and Alex Marquez making history together.
Marc’s move to Ducati made him an early favourite for the title, and he delivered on those expectations by clinching the championship in Japan. It was a significant moment for him after several years of injury struggles.
He won 25 races that year, including 15 straight between Aragon and Barcelona. It was one of the most dominant runs we’ve seen in MotoGP, but few predicted his brother would be the one closest to him in the standings.
Alex had found consistency hard to come by earlier in his MotoGP career, but everything came together in 2025 on the GP24. He finished with three wins and 12 podiums, showing how far he had come.
He secured second place overall at Sepang after taking his third win of the season. The Marquez brothers finishing first and second marked a first for MotoGP siblings.

Marc Marquez on how ‘family rivalries’ with Alex made 2025 one of his most memorable years
Marc Marquez was understandably looking to get back to full health in 2025, while Alex was still chasing his first premier class title. Their mother, Roser Alenta, admitted she hoped her younger son would come out on top that season.
Speaking to AS at the FIM Gala, Marc described the year as “one of the best” of his career so far and said that competing against family made it even more special.
“All the riders gave it their all and dedicated every effort and passion,” he said. “My passion is what gave me the energy to try and get out of the hole I got myself into in 2020. At one point I thought it would be impossible to come back here, but we’re back.
“Many thanks to my whole team, to Ducati and my family. It has been one of the best seasons of my life because my biggest rival was my brother.
“There were some rivalries because my mother supported my brother, but the truth is that if you follow your instincts and enjoy your passion, you can climb out of any hole.”
The big question: Can Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez match their 2025 performance?
The expectations for another strong campaign are high for both brothers going into 2026. With Alex moving up to a factory bike next year, he’ll have equal machinery to his brother for the first time.
The problem for him is that Marc has always been a step ahead when riding identical bikes. He knows not to give his brother any space in close battles because even a small opening is enough for Marc to take advantage.
Even though they have momentum behind them heading into 2026, Marc isn’t convinced they’ll repeat last year’s feat. He’s already called another one-two finish ‘unlikely.’
Marc will head into next season as clear title favourite once again. Meanwhile, Alex doesn’t seem too concerned about chasing a world title just yet—he’s happy enough finishing second again if it comes down to it.
