Marcus Antonsson has suggested that he is unsure what the future holds as he prepares to return to parent club Leeds United.

Antonsson has endured a frustrating spell with the Whites. The Yorkshire Evening Post reported in 2016 that Leeds had agreed to pay around £2 million to sign him following a stunning spell with Kalmar, and the early signs hinted that he may prove a very decent signing.

After a bright couple of appearances, the 27-year-old got on the scoresheet in the Championship victory over Sheffield Wednesday in August 2016. However, that remains his sole league goal for the Whites.
A change of system during the early stages of Garry Monk’s tenure saw Antonsson move closer to the periphery of the squad. He joined Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan last summer, but again, after a bright start, he faded away and did not score after November.
Many may well be expecting Antonsson to leave Leeds permanently this summer. FotbollDirekt recently reported that Malmo and Hammarby are keen on bringing him back to Sweden. And while Antonsson did not comment on the clubs interested in him specifically, he certainly did not suggest that a move was out of the question.

It would certainly be a surprise if Antonsson was going to get another prolonged chance in the Leeds first-team after this summer. However, with a new head coach set to arrive, he will know that he has an opportunity to fight for his place at the club if he wishes to go after it.
