Jon Rahm endured another major championship to forget after missing the cut at the US Open.

Entering the tournament leading the LIV Golf individual standings and as a former champion, he was considered among the favorites to lift the trophy.

But the former world number one has failed to make the weekend action, carding rounds of 68 and 78 to finish his first two rounds on six-over.

However, many fans think it could and perhaps should have been even worse for Rahm at the US Open given his outburst on day two at Shinnecock Hills.

Who do you think can catch Wyndham Clark? 🤔

Rahm was spotted kicking his driver several times in frustration, with Joaquin Niemann’s two-shot penalty for throwing his club on day one quickly brought into the conversation.

One fan wrote on X: “So can someone explain like I’m 5 why this wasn’t also a 2-stroke penalty if we’re dinging guys for chucking clubs this week?”

Other fans responded by saying: “Because they didn’t make a rule about kicking clubs yet,” and “It should!”

Meanwhile, others were quick to criticize the Spaniard, saying: “Petulant child. LIV should keep him,” as well as “LIV golf has turned these guys into petulant children, what a disgrace,” and “Pathetic.”

And summarizing the incident, another disappointed fan noted: “Leaving aside whether this is a penalty or not, you can tell from this video that not all players who rise to the top of the world are necessarily saintly paragons of virtue.”

It’s certainly not the first time he’s kicked a club in anger, while the two-time major winner was also caught swearing in frustration amid his difficulties at Shinnecock.

Jon Rahm among stars to suffer shock missed cut at the US Open

Unlike Rahm, his fellow LIV Golf player Niemann received a two-stroke penalty for his outburst in Long Island, where the new major code of conduct policy is in place.

However, the Chilean remarkably recovered from a septuple bogey 11 on the sixth hole on Thursday to make the cut.

Very surprisingly, Rahm failed in that endeavour, despite his dominant form on LIV Golf and his recent T2 finish at the PGA Championship.

Such efforts have helped him return to the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings, but he’s now leaving New York early after a disastrous showing.

Finishing two shots off the four-over cut line, he ended his week with three birdies, 25 pars, seven bogeys and one double bogey from his 36 holes.

Notably, while it will be of little comfort to Rahm, he certainly wasn’t the only high-profile name to miss the cut at the US Open.

His LIV Golf counterpart Bryson DeChambeau also fell short, along with PGA Tour stars Shane Lowry, Brooks Koepka, Viktor Hovland, Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott among others.
