Jürgen Klopp has been speaking to Sky Sports about a range of topics, from Mohamed Salah to the Premier League title race.

The German also commented on Newcastle’s takeover, and he doesn’t seem too happy about it.

What’s the story?

Well, the 54-year-old expressed his concern over the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia buying Newcastle.

Sky Sports quote him as saying: “How it came about that this was allowed despite many concerns, I cannot assess. If only we were about football speak, then of course in the long run you have to say that it will be a superpower.

“At the Super League, the whole world was justifiably upset about it. It’s basically like the Super League now – just for one club.”

Clearly, Klopp thinks the Magpies are all set to become a genuine superpower in football with their newfound riches.

Klopp doesn’t share his personal views on the takeover too much, although the fact he added “it wasn’t my choice” suggests he disagrees with the situation.

Largely, it sounds as if the German is mainly worried about the competition aspect of the takeover – some could argue he’s fearful of the threat Newcastle now pose to his side.

Having said that, Klopp’s contract expires in 2024, so he may not even be around to be on the receiving end of the Magpies and their financial might.

Expect to see plenty of Newcastle takeover negativity

When talk of the Super League came out, the football world was universally united in opposing it.

Klopp claims that Newcastle’s takeover is like the Super League on a smaller scale, so in that respect, the Magpies should expect plenty of negativity.

The St James’ Park faithful should brace themselves for some nastiness, from those who will downplay their accomplishments due to PIF’s wealth.

It will presumably be similar to how people view Manchester City’s achievements right now.

Of course, the Citizens are a great team, but most of their success is often met with people saying it’s to be expected, given how much they spend.

In this land of newfound wealth, Newcastle are going to become more disliked than ever before if they can match spending with success.
