The West Ham United hitman has less than six months remaining on his current deal.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini spoke to reporters after his side’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Cardiff City yesterday, and suggested that Andy Carroll was not part of the squad because he chose not to select him, rather than an injury being the cause for his absence, as quoted by Football.London.
And those comments from the Chilean might just signal the end of the 6ft 4in Geordie’s Hammers career.
The 30-year-old joined West Ham initially on loan from Liverpool in the summer of 2012, before making his move a permanent one the following year for around £15 million.
Carroll has struggled with injuries during his time in east London, however, and he has managed just 84 Premier League starts in six-and-a-half years with the club.
The former Newcastle and Liverpool hitman was left out of West Ham’s squad for their clash with Cardiff yesterday, and Pellegrini told reporters why, as quoted by Football.London:
“He was not considered for this game.”
Considering the fact that West Ham have struggled for goals recently, especially away from home, leaving Carroll out of the squad entirely proves that Pellegrini is just not that keen on him.
And with the 30-year-old’s current deal set to expire in the summer, his days at the London Stadium really do seem to be numbered.
