West Ham United were far too good for Newcastle United yesterday.

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s superb 3-0 win away at Newcastle United yesterday, and shared the one thing that his team could have done better, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The Hammers made a really poor start to their Premier League campaign, so yesterday’s victory was much needed, and they now sit just seven points adrift of sixth placed Everton in the table.

West Ham will now be looking up, after yesterday’s win on Tyneside, and a top eight finish should be a realistic target for them this season.

Pellegrini always expects the very best from his team, though, and he admitted that they should have beaten the Magpies by an even greater margin yesterday, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“We are very satisfied because I think the team played a very good game. We scored three good goals and could have scored at least four or five more. And we kept a clean sheet, which is not very normal for us this season, so we’re pleased. It was the complete game.”

Next up for West Ham is a home game against Cardiff City on Tuesday night, and Pellegrini’s men will fancy their chances of chalking up two consecutive Premier league wins for the first time this season.

If the east Londoners are to finish in the top half, however, they will need to continue to showcase the same defensive rigidity that they displayed at St James’ Park yesterday.
