West Ham United failed to live up to expectations this season.

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini spoke exclusively to the club’s official website about his debut season in charge at the London Stadium, and admitted that he always knew that this campaign would be a challenging one.
The Hammers struggled with injuries and consistency throughout the 2018/19 season, and ended up in 10th spot in the Premier League table, although they did finish on a high, winning their final three games.
West Ham fans will be hoping for real improvements next term, and so will Pellegrini.
The east London outfit have the potential to push on and finish inside the top seven next season, but the Chilean must bring some real quality into the club this summer, whilst getting rid of some of the deadwood.
And the Hammers chief suggested that this season was always going to be difficult, however, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website:

“I knew when I arrived that this would be a transitional season, and that there was a lot of work to do in rebuilding confidence and creating a new mentality. With great support and investment from the owners, we signed a lot of new players and it was always going to take time to find consistency, but I am generally happy with the progress that has made.”
Quite how much money Pellegrini will have to spend this summer remains to be seen, but if the West Ham board really want their club to compete towards the top end of the table, they need to back their manager accordingly.
