West Ham United ran out comfortable winners against AFC Wimbledon last night.
West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini spoke to reporters after his side progressed through to the third round of the Carabao Cup last night, and shared what he thought was the most impressive thing about their performance, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Hammers were behind for 63 minutes against AFC Wimbledon last night, before a late flurry of goals saw the east Londoners run out as comfortable 3-1 winners.
Pellegrini addressed the media after the match, and shared what he believed was the best thing about West Ham’s performance against the League One side, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“[It’s difficult] when you play against teams who defend very well and are so strong aerially, and when you go 1-0 behind in the first minute of the game to the first corner, when you work all week not to suffer those kinds of goals. But after that the most important thing was our dedication to win this game, and I was sure that if we continued playing [in that way] we would score the goal. That was the best thing about the performance tonight, that we kept calm.”
Next up for the Hammers is a home game against Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday, and nothing less than a victory will do for Pellegrini’s men, as they look to move away from the bottom of the table.
The Black Country outfit will represent a real test for West Ham, however, and they will have to be at their very best, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of beating last season’s Championship title winners.
