New West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has selected a number of exciting youth prospects to accompany his first team on a pre-season tour of Switzerland.

Martin Samuelsen, Marcus Browne, Conor Coventry, Nathan Trott, Sead Haksabanovic and young goalkeeping duo Joseph Anang and Daniel Jinadu have all been chosen to rub shoulders with the club’s senior stars, and they will all be hoping to catch the manager’s eye in the hoping of making a breakthrough in 2018/19.
The fact that Pellegrini has included so many youngsters perhaps suggests that this will be the way he goes about choosing his matchday squads next season.
In recent seasons at West Ham, fans have not seen the birth of any real stars from the club’s famous youth setup. Declan Rice looks like he could buck that trend but him aside, there haven’t been any youngsters coming through and getting the fans off their feet.
West Ham supporters have had a stressful time of things in recent years with regard to the club’s ownership and poor results on the pitch, and so it could be part of Pellegrini’s plan to try and take a different approach and place his faith in some potentially hidden gems and develop them.
Pellegrini has also already completed the signing of the highly rated Issa Diop, who is a centre-back aged just 21.
So far, the new manager’s activities certainly point towards him trying to set up with a younger, fresher dynamic for 2018/19.
