The West Ham United forward was in inspired form against Everton yesterday.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini addressed the media yesterday, in the aftermath of his side’s 3-1 win against Everton, and offered high words of praise for Andiy Yarmolenko, despite suggesting that he still has room for improvement, as quoted by Football.London.
The Hammers signed the Ukraine international from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £17.5 million, but he has taken his time to settle into life in the Premier League.
Yarmolenko earned his first Premier League start of the season yesterday away at Everton, and the 28-year-old didn’t disappoint, scoring his side’s first two goals.
Pellegrini spoke to reporters after the game, and praised the Ukrainian, despite suggesting that he still has room for improvement, as quoted by Football.London:
“I know what the Premier League is and Andriy didn’t arrive here ready to play in the Premier League. He has a lot of quality, he has demonstrated that but he needs more work. We preferred to work with him a couple of weeks and when I saw he was ready, he needed to demonstrate his quality. I think that today he did that.”
Next up for West Ham is a home game against Chelsea on Sunday, and Yarmolenko will have to be at his very best, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of beating the Blues.
