The West Ham United defender has been out of action for more than two months.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini addressed the media during his pre-match press conference today, and provided some positive news regarding Ryan Fredericks’ impending return from a lengthy injury lay-off, as quoted by Football.London.
The Hammers have had to endure rotten luck with injuries this season, but to their credit, they have managed to claw themselves up to 10th place in the Premier League table.
Right-back has been a real problem position for West Ham this season, with Fredericks’ lengthy absence meaning that Pellegrini has had to rely on the ageing Pablo Zabaleta far more than he would have wanted.
So having the former Fulham man back and available selection will be a major boost for the east London outfit.
Pellegrini spoke to reporters today, and suggested that the 26-year-old is closing in on a return to frst-team action, as quoted by Football.London:
“Fredericks is completely working with the squad. We will talk with him, he played 45 minutes on Tuesday for the U23 team, we will see how he recovers.”
Fredericks has demonstrated when he has played for West Ham just how much of an asset he can be, and Pellegrini will be hoping that he plays a key role for his team between now and the end of the season, aiding their push for a Europa League place in the process.
