West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has told Football.London that he thinks Michail Antonio is ‘improving’ after a fine run of form.

Antonio, 28, was a star in his first two seasons with the club after arriving from Nottingham Forest, but he struggled last season.

With just three goals and one assist, Antonio failed to bring his usual productivity, and fans have been hugely critical of his performances even up to the first half of this season.

However, the winger has impressed of late, notching two goals in his last three games whilst also winning a penalty at Crystal Palace away.

Antonio appears to be getting back to his best, contributing heavily to West Ham’s attacking output with his power, pace, hard work and knack of being in the right place at the right time.

Fans are being won over by Antonio’s recent performances, and after scoring against Fulham on Friday night, he has been hailed by boss Pellegrini.

Pellegrini has admitted that Antonio is ‘improving’, citing that recovery from injury was causing some bad form, but praised him for working hard every day and showing everyone how good he is.

“He is improving,” said Pellegrini. “This season he returned from a long injury, which is not easy, especially for a player so strong, to recover their best shape. Michail Antonio is working very hard every day and that demonstrates why he is improving his performance. He is a player who must continue improving,” he added.
