The West Ham United manager was pleased with Hernandez’s performance last night.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini spoke to reporters after his side’s draw with Liverpool last night, and offered high words of praise for Javier Hernandez, suggesting that he was very happy with the Mexican’s performance, as quoted by Football.London.
The 30-year-old Hammers striker was heavily linked with an exit in January, with Spanish media outlet Marca going as far as suggesting that he had actually agreed personal terms with La Liga outfit Valencia.
Chicharito ended up staying at the London Stadium, however, and he will now have a key role to play for West Ham between now and the end of the season.
Pellegrini addressed the media last night, and admitted that he was unsure whether the former Manchester United hitman would leave the club last month, whilst praising his performance against Liverpool, as quoted by Football.London:
“I was very happy with him. I repeat, before the transfer window was closed he was a player that had rumours that he was going, he was staying then going. He played well and I happy for him and the team.”
With Marko Arnautovic currently out injured, Hernandez will surely get a good run of games now, and he will be desperate to improve upon his rather underwhelming goalscoring record so far the season.
Whether he will be a West Ham player beyond the end of this season, however, remains to be seen.
