West Ham United defensive midfielder Declan Rice impressed again in the heart of Manuel Pellegrini’s side’s midfield.

Manuel Pellegrini has told the London Evening Standard that West Ham United youngster Declan Rice really needs to improve his technique.

Rice has been handed the role of being West Ham’s main protective shield for their defence this season.

The Republic of Ireland international has stepped into the Hammers’ team in a defensive midfield role and thrived in the position.

Rice once again was in impressive form at the weekend, as Pellegrini’s side picked up a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace.

But Pellegrini still sees areas where the 19-year-old can improve and become an even better player.

He said: “He must try to have a better technique. It is a position, a tactical position, maybe the most tactical in the team because he must be involved in defending, covering the space and in the other side he must have a good build up with good technique so I think he has both things that he will do it better in every game he plays.”

West Ham have now won three games in a row, after their victory over Palace.

Pellegrini’s side scored their goals against the Eagles through Robert Snodgrass, Javier Hernandez and Felipe Anderson.

The Hammers are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Fulham on Saturday evening.
