The West Ham United striker has received criticism from the club’s fans over the past few months.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini addressed the media today ahead of his side’s clash with Chelsea on Monday night, and provided an update on Marko Arnautovic’s current mental state, having been booed off against Everton last weekend, as quoted by Football.London.
The 29-year-old was heavily linked with an exit from the Hammers in January, with an offer from China for his services rebuffed from the club’s board.
Arnie then went on to sign a new contract with West Ham, but he just hasn’t been the same player since January, and he hasn’t scored a goal for Pellegrini’s side in over three months.
And the Chilean told reporters today how the Hammers fans need to get behind the Austria international throughout what is a really tricky spell for the forward, as quoted by Football.London:
“Marko is not happy but this happens to players, they are not in their best moment. They need support more than punishment. Marko wants to do things better, he is absolutely involved with our team. China is over. Anyone thinking Marko doesn’t want to be here, they are wrong. He is not in a good moment but supporting him, he will return.”
West Ham desperately need a win against Chelsea on Monday, and Arnautovic will be desperate to put in a match-winning display against the Blues.
