West Ham United won 2-0 against Newport County last night, as they progressed in the Carabao Cup.

Sanchez was given his first start of the season for West Ham last night, in Pellegrini’s side’s match against Newport County.
West Ham won 2-0 against their lower league opponents, with Sanchez being one of the players who Pellegrini picked out for praise at full-time alongside Jack Wilshere and Felipe Anderson.
“Jack [Wilshere], I think that he played very well, scoring a goal and dominating the midfield area,” Pellegrini said.
“This is what we expect from him because he is an experienced player and he knows how to do it and, on a good day, he makes it very difficult for the other team to recover the ball.
“Also, with Carlos Sanchez, I think that he also played a very good game, and Felipe Anderson was also a positive for us.”
It was actually Sanchez’s first start for West Ham for almost a year, as his first season at the club was disrupted by injury.

There remains some doubts from West Ham fans about the Colombian’s quality, but Pellegrini seems to rate him.
The hope is that Sanchez will continue to put in strong performances against higher quality opposition teams, if he is picked.
West Ham scored their goals against Newport through Wilshere and Pablo Fornals.
