The West Ham United hitman bagged a brace against Southampton today.
West Ham thumped Southampton 3-0 at the London Stadium today, in what was a fitting way to sign off at home for the season.
The Hammers now sit just one point adrift of 10th placed Watford, and if Javi Gracia’s men fail to beat Chelsea tomorrow, a win for Pellegrini’s men on the last day of the season against the Hornets would be enough to secure them a top 10 finish.
Pellegrini will be cursing his luck, because had he had a full compliment of players to choose from all season, there is no telling how far West Ham could have gone.
The east London outfit look like a real team now that almost all of their players are back fit, and they will surely be expecting a top seven finish next term.
One key player in particular for them over the past two years has been Marko Arnautovic, but he has been nowhere near his best since being linked with a move away from West Ham in January.
The Austrian scored twice today, however, and Pellegrini insisted that the striker has a big part to play in his side’s future, as quoted by Football.London:
“We hope. This team with Marko, a complete season in quiet and calm and just playing football, he will make a difference.”
Arnautovic owes a lot to the West Ham fans, and if he does indeed end up staying at the London Stadium, he must repay them next season with more consistent and committed performances than he has shown this term.
