West Ham United fans serenaded their manager at Craven Cottage this past weekend.

Manuel Pellegrini has admitted to Football London that he was ‘very happy’ to hear West Ham United fans chanting his name on Saturday.

The Irons beat Fulham 2-0 at Craven Cottage for what was a fourth successive Premier League victory under the Chilean manager.

West Ham, who have scored 11 goals in their last four games, are coming into some serious form at just the right time – form that is quite the contrast in comparison to their early-season struggles.

United lost their first four Premier League outings, after spending over £100 million in the summer transfer window.

But the former Manchester City boss, who led the Sky Blues to the title in 2014, insisted to Football London that he never felt any animosity toward him from West Ham fans at the time.

He said, when asked how the chanting made him feel: “Very happy also. Yes of course [it is significant].

“I think that when we started the season so bad, we were not winning games, I never felt any reaction negatively towards me.

“They were always behind me, behind my work, behind my players.”

West Ham are ninth in the Premier League table and could very well end 2018 with a bang.

Pellegrini’s side, who are only two points behind sixth-placed Manchester United, finish off the calendar year with a visit of Watford on Saturday and then two trips to Southampton and Burnley respectively.

On this form, it really wouldn’t be a huge surprise if the Hammers picked up nine points from those three outings and, if that materialises, Pellegrini can expect to hear the same song on a much more regular basis.
