West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has told Football.London that he feels winger Michail Antonio is ‘improving’ after his cameo against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Hammers were looking to bounce back from a dismal defeat at Burnley, but weren’t exactly at their best against Brighton either as they had to come from 2-0 down to claim a point.

After a pretty drab first half, Brighton raced into a 2-0 lead early in the second period, with Dale Stephens and Shane Duffy scoring in quick succession.

However, West Ham hit back with two quick goals of their own, as Marko Arnautovic scored twice to haul the Hammers level, rescuing a point.

Both sides pressed for a winner but couldn’t find it, as they had to settle for a point each after a frantic second half at the London Stadium.

One player who had a big impact in West Ham’s fight back was winger Michail Antonio, who came on to inject some pace and life into the Hammers attack.

Once a key player under Slaven Bilic, Antonio hasn’t impressed for much of the last year, and has become accustomed to a substitute role at the London Stadium.

Antonio has been slammed by fans for some time now, but Pellegrini has admitted that he is ‘very happy’ with Antonio’s displays, noting that he even thinks the winger is improving – as seen with his impact against Brighton.

“I am very happy with him and the way he has been playing. His performances have been improving,” said Pellegrini.
