West Ham United are reportedly interested in extending Manuel Lanzini’s contract.
Manuel Lanzini has told Sky Sports that he wants to stay and extend his contract with West Ham amid reports that the Hammers are looking to agree a new deal with the playmaker.
Sky Sports reports that Lanzini’s deal at the London Stadium expires at the end of the season, but the Irons have the option to extend those terms by a further two years.
His current contract appears to hand West Ham a lot of breathing space when it comes to sorting Lanzini’s future. But it is little surprise that the club have set their sights on agreeing an extension with the Argentina international.
And they have received a major boost with Lanzini providing an incredibly encouraging update on his future.
“Yes, we are talking with the club about staying and, of course, I want to stay,” he told Sky Sports.
“It is like my home. It is my fifth season now, I love the fans, the fans love me and the club is amazing.”
While West Ham are already in a strong position, it would have put a lot of clubs on alert had Lanzini decided that he had little interest in signing a new contract with the Hammers.
It would have sent out a message that he may be interested in seeking a new challenge. And with time ticking down on his current deal, West Ham may have felt compelled to sell during one of the future windows to ensure that they get a good price for the attacking midfielder.
But Lanzini is clearly keen to make sure that he is at West Ham for even longer. And after a difficult start to the new season, those comments are probably exactly what every Hammers fans needed to hear.
