Both Newcastle United and Sunderland have new right-backs this season.

Newcastle United completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur full-back DeAndre Yedlin this week, only months after the USA international played a part in helping rivals Sunderland to Premier League safety at the expense of the Magpies.

It was an impressive piece of business by Rafa Benitez, with the Black Cats said to have been interested in signing the 23-year-old on a permanent deal earlier in the transfer window (Mail).

As it ends up, David Moyes has instead agreed a season-long loan for Atletico Madrid’s Javier Manquillo – a player who was previously on loan with Liverpool and was with Marseille last season.

While it is certainly worth remembering that Yedlin was playing for a side struggling in the Premier League, and Manquillo was at a Marseille side who finished mid-table in Ligue 1, it looks like each player has his strengths.

The Spaniard has a considerably higher passing percentage, and is also way ahead when it comes to winning tackles and intercepting the ball in games.

Newcastle’s new boy is however in front when it comes to blocking efforts on goal, and is also stronger when it comes to clearing the ball.

Unsurprisingly, Yedlin is also on top when it comes to the number of times he manages to dribble past a player, although Sunderland’s loan arrival isn’t too far behind the jet-heeled US international.
