Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has been reflecting on the 2014 World Cup campaign with Argentina.

The 24-year-old was a key player for the South American giants as they reached the final of the tournament in Brazil in the summer.

Rojo’s versatility to play as a left-back and a centre-back was a boon to the Argentines, who were looking to win the World Cup for the first time since 1986.

However, La Albiceleste’s dreams were crushed in the final as Germany defeated them 1-0 after extra time.

Argentina eventually took their revenge when they hammered the European giants 4-2 in a friendly international, but Rojo still has painful memories of the match in Brazil.

‘It doesn’t change what happened’, he told United’s official website. ‘It was painful for us to lose the final against them. We wanted to win the cup and it eluded us but now we have to put it behind us.

‘We have to move forward and think of what’s ahead. We have the Copa America in 2015, so now our focus is to be prepared for the upcoming games’.

Rojo has been part of the Argentina national team since 2011 and is a first-team regular, but he refuses to take his place in the squad for granted.

‘The national team is incredible’, said the former Sporting Lisbon star. ‘I think that any player dreams of representing his country. The chance to represent mine is something special and I never take it for granted’.
