West Ham United should consider a move for the Manchester United full-back this summer.

The former coach of Manchester City, Chilean Manuel Pellegrini (L), arrives for the draw of the Copa Sudamericana football tournament, in Santiago, on July 12, 2016.

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has already been extremely active during this summer’s transfer window, but whether he is to strengthen further still will depend heavily on the system that he wishes to use at the London Stadium.

If the Chilean wants to play with three central defenders, and two wing-backs, bringing in another left sided defender might just feature highly on his wish-list, what with Arthur Masuaku’s questionable contribution in the defensive third.

The Hammers also have Aaron Cresswell, of course, but he was deployed in a central defensive role last term, and Pellegrini might just want to keep him there this time around, in the interest of continuity.

With this in mind, West Ham should consider a move for Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw, with the 23-year-old facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, according to a report from BBC Sport.

Shaw joined United from Southampton in the summer of 2014, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £27 million, according to BBC Sport, but he has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular at Old Trafford.

At just 23, Shaw still has a lot to offer at the very highest level, though, and a move away from United could be just what he needs to help reinvigorate his career.

And West Ham might just be the place where Shaw finally fulfils his potential.

The seven-capped England international is a sound defender, but he is also a real threat going forward, and he would arguably be a big upgrade on the inconsistent Masuaku.

Quite how much United will expect for his signature is unclear, but West Ham should test the waters with an enquiry nevertheless.
