The World Cup winning Manchester United midfielder was quizzed about a possible move to the US in a press conference this week.
Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger
Germany legend Bastian Schweinsteiger put out a ‘brief message’ on Twitter last week, stating that Manchester United would be his last club in Europe.
Somewhat inevitably, that statement led to links between the eight-time Bundesliga winner and some of the world’s non-European league’s and club’s.
The most heavily linked of these was the MLS, and in a news conference this week, the out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder was questioned about the possibility of a move to the US.
Schweinsteiger is not in Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho’s plans
A consummate professional, Schweinsteiger once again reiterated his commitment to Manchester United, saying that it was still his dream to play for the club, even adding that he had “no personal problems” with boss Jose Mourinho.
When asked about the possibility of a switch to the MLS though, Schweinsteiger wouldn’t rule it out, describing it as “naturally an option”.
Despite seeming open to such a move, the former Bayern Munich man added that any move “won’t happen this season”.
Schweinsteiger has been linked with a move to Chicago Fire
Schweinsteiger was today named in Manchester United’s 25 man squad, but one shouldn’t read too much into that, as Jose Mourinho’s views on the German are unlikely to have changed.
Chicago Fire have already been linked with Schweinsteiger, but at just 32 and still a class act, just about any MLS team would be willing to free up a DP spot for the midfielder.
The 2013 Champions League winner made an emotional retirement from international football earlier this week, having won 121 caps for Germany, winning one World Cup and coming third on two occasions.
Would a move to the MLS be a good one for Bastian Schweinsteiger?
