Southampton should seriously consider a move for Manchester United’s Ashley Young this summer.
Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino will still be looking to strengthen in attacking areas before the start of the new Premier League campaign in just two weeks.
The Argentine has a lot of work to do, however, if he is to add a certain kind of potency to Southampton’s attacking play, after their woeful return of just 41 goals in 38 Premier League games last term.
Whilst the current transfer market is an incredibly hard one to operate in, there are still some bargains to be had, and a useful option for the south coast side could be Manchester United winger Ashley Young, who has just 12 months remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford.
Ashley Young
The 32-year-old has been a wonderfully consistent performer for the Red Devils, since joining them from Aston Villa in the summer of 2013, and he still possesses so much quality, despite his advancing years.
He is part of the rare breed of footballer who are equally as strong with both feet, and can play anywhere along the front-line. This would provide Pellegrino with the opportunity to play with more in-game tactical flexibility, without the need to use his substitutes.
Young would also bring a certain level of experience to the Saints side that they are currently bereft of, and his presence in the team would undoubtedly improve them.
With just a year left on his deal at Old Trafford, he shouldn’t prove to be too expensive, and if Pellegrino manages to bring him to St Mary’s, it could turn out to be a real coup for Southampton.
