The Manchester United winger would be an excellent addition to the Newcastle United squad this summer.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has a lot of work to do at St James’ Park this summer, as he continues to struggle to bring players of sufficient quality into the club.

One particular department where the Spaniard will want to improve upon is the wide attacking areas, with the acquisition of an established winger thought to feature highly on his agenda.

With this in mind, Newcastle should consider entering the race for Manchester united winger Ashley Young, who is a reported transfer target for both Stoke City and West Brom, according to the Sun.

The 32-year-old former Aston Villa star is highly experienced in playing at the top level, and despite his advancing years, he still has a plenty to offer in the Premier League, and would surely prove to be a major asset for the Toon.

He still has plenty of pace, and that combined with the exceptional delivery that he possesses in his armoury would surely help add a certain level of potency to the Magpies’ attacking play.

Young is apt at playing on either flank, and is equally as strong with both feet, which makes him so hard to defend against, what with the unpredictability of his playing style.

He can also fill in at either full-back position, which would surely be particularly appealing to Benitez, with the Spaniard being renowned for bulking out his squad with strength in depth in every position.

His quality is underlined by the 30 international caps that he has earned for the England national team, and the fact that he has just 12 months remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford means that Newcastle could sign a top-class player for minimal cost.

And if Benitez does manage to bring Young to Tyneside, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for Newcastle.
