A round-up of news and gossip relating to Manchester United over the past 24 hours.

The Daily Mail today reports that Manchester United and Arsenal have joined the race to sign Celtic’s 21-year-old Victor Wanyama. They player, who is believed to be chased by QPR and Stoke, can play as a defender or a defensive midfielder although the latter is preferred. Scouts from United and Arsenal reportedly watched the player in Celtic’s 1-0 loss to Norwich and the Manchester club see the player as providing backup in central defence and midfield. Celtic are looking for £7m before they agree to a sale.

The Van Persie transfer saga narrowed down to two potential clubs as Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta conceded that Arsenal’s valuation of the player was too high. The North London club are demanding £20m for their striker who has 12 months remaining on his contract and Juventus’ withdrawal leaves only United and City in the hunt for his signature.

Paul Pogba was in Torino on Friday afternoon undergoing a medical as he completes his move to Juventus. The 19-year-old has not been convinced to stay in Manchester and the Frenchman will now hope to establish himself in the Juve first-team.

The Sun have reported that Galatasaray are preparing a £5m bid for United striker Dimitar Berbatov. The player’s agent claimed last week that the player was valued at £5m by Ferguson thus the imminent bid should be enough to acquire the player.

Manchester United have announced today that legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has been appointed as club ambassador. The former player will work on behalf of the club at functions and within the community. He joins Andrew Cole, Gary Neville, Bryan Robson and Sir Bobby Charlton in an ambassadorial role.

According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin is to join a ‘big Premier League club’. News of the imminent deal have been further fuelled after the player was left out of the Madrid squad travelling to Portugal for a friendly with Benfica. Manchester United and Arsenal were two possible names speculated in Spanish media reports.

And finally, Sir Alex Ferguson and members of the United team took part in a charity fashion catwalk last night in support of the Manchester United Foundation. The event was organised by sponsors Hublot and the United boss, along with Rio Ferdinand, Kagawa and Hernandez, strutted along the cat walk in aid of charity.
