Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The Manchester derby returns in Gameweek 22 of the Barclays Premier League, with kick-off set for Saturday, January 17, at Old Trafford.

Both sides are looking to regain their footing. Manchester United hope to start the Michael Carrick era with a big result, while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will want to continue their strong run in recent meetings.

Carrick’s first match as interim head coach comes against a familiar opponent. The fixture carries plenty of weight, with both sides in need of consistency as the season enters its final stages.

Game information

The match takes place at Old Trafford, the iconic 74,310-seater stadium, which will provide a fitting backdrop for the 198th Manchester derby. The atmosphere is expected to be intense, with both sets of fans eager to see their side take control.

Kick-off time

Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 PM (UK time), which is 7:30 AM Eastern Time (US) and 6:00 PM in India.

The weather in Manchester is expected to be cloudy but dry, with temperatures around 7°C and light northwesterly winds — ideal conditions for January football.

Where to watch Manchester United vs Manchester City

The Manchester derby will be broadcast live across several platforms worldwide.

Fans can also follow updates through official club apps, websites, and live text commentary on social media.

Team news

Manchester United: Michael Carrick will be without Matthijs de Ligt, who remains sidelined. Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo have returned from AFCON duty, while Harry Maguire is fit again. Shea Lacey is suspended after his red card against Brighton.

Manchester City: Pep Guardiola will miss several defenders, with Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, and John Stones all unavailable.

January signing Antoine Semenyo could feature again after scoring in City’s Carabao Cup win over Newcastle.

City remain without Omar Marmoush, who, despite his AFCON loss with Egypt, won’t be back in time for the game. Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and Jeremy Doku are all expected to start after recent strong performances.

Head-to-head record

This will be the 198th Manchester derby in all competitions. City won the reverse fixture 3–0 at the Etihad earlier this season, with goals from Foden and Haaland.

Prediction

United are rebuilding under Carrick, while City continue to dominate possession and create chances through their wide players.

Given both teams’ recent form, a narrow contest is expected — but City’s attacking depth could make the difference.

Predicted score: Manchester United 1–2 Manchester City
