Manchester United host Reading in the third round in the FA Cup.
Jaap Stam returns to familiar surroundings this weekend as his Reading side travel to Old Trafford hoping to spring an upset when they face Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
But are the Royals about to come up against a man who is defying science this season?
HITC Sport’s James Rutherford and Michael Ramsey believe that they may well be in the form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The maverick Swede has enjoyed a brilliant time at Old Trafford in front of goal, having scored 18 in 28 games in all competitions since joining the Red Devils, including 12 in his last 12.
And given the number of competitions the 35-year-old is featuring in – United remain in the League Cup and in Europe – Michael was at a loss to explain Ibra’s continued excellence.
“He’s playing in the Europa League as well, he’s playing in that competition, he plays in the EFL Cup, the Premier League, it’s just defying science,” HITC Sport’s Michael explained.
Reading manager Jaap Stam
Having enjoyed such a trophy-laden career, it is difficult to imagine that Ibrahimovic will be taking Reading lightly this weekend.
Stam’s men have won eight of their last 10 games so will have plenty of confidence that they can surprise Mourinho’s side. But with United also enjoying their own excellent run – they have won their last seven – they will need every bit of belief possible if Stam hopes to come back and haunt his old club.
