Reports this morning claim Manchester United will not sell Wayne Rooney – even if he puts in a formal transfer request.
The England striker was the subject of a failed bid from Chelsea earlier this week. And he is said to be “angry and confused” following comments from David Moyes that he has is now second-choice to Robin van Persie. But United appear to be standing firm on his future, and are set to dismiss an improved bid from Jose Mourinho…should it arrive.
Another report claims Rooney is set for clear-the-air talks with United chief executive Ed Woodward, as the club seek to determine the player’s true feelings in light of third-party comments.
The report goes on to claim that Moyes sees Rooney as a number 10 who will work in tandem with van Persie, and this will be conveyed to the 27-year-old in the next 48 hours. However that goes against (some of) what Moyes said in his earlier press conference, while simultaneously rendering Shinji Kagawa a bit-part player for the second successive season.
Played in his natural position, the former Borussia Dortmund man is outstanding. Surely Moyes won’t relegate him to the wings as Sir Alex Ferguson did in his final campaign.

The Tottenham player is rumoured to be a £60million target for the champions, an offer that some outlets are reporting is destined to fail and others claim is tempting the Welshman into a possible move.
The London Evening Standard claims Spurs will reject any and all offers for the former Southampton player, a fact that has seemingly dissuaded Real Madrid…at least for now.
While the Daily Star runs with an exclusive that Bale would consider a move to Old Trafford – not least due to the presence of Champions League football.
The story claims Bale has told friends he is interested in a move to the Red Devils. But with no quotes, and seemingly nothing more than has been reported countless times before, it remains to be seen how true the latest claims are.
