Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United want to sign Chris Rigg from Sunderland, but Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are strong favourites to secure the services of the teenage central midfielder in the January transfer window, according to The Sun.
Manchester United and Newcastle United competing for Sunderland’s Chris Rigg
The report in the British tabloid has claimed that Manchester United would love to bring the 15-year-old Sunderland prospect to Old Trafford and make him a part of their long-term future.
However, Newcastle are the ‘strong favourites’ for the teenager, with Premier League rivals Everton also keen on him.
The Sun have added that Sunderland value the England Under-16 captain at £2.5 million.
What should Chris Rigg do?
In our view, Chris Rigg should not rush into making a decision just yet and should take his time over whether he should stay at Sunderland or move to Newcastle United or Manchester United.
After all, he is only 15.

What the teenager needs right now is good coaching to help him develop and improve his game.
Before Rigg makes any decision, he has to consider where he would improve the most and where he would get the best coaching.
Now, of course, we know that Manchester United and Newcastle United are massive clubs, but the teenager should look into whether he would get a clear pathway into the first team at the Red Devils or the Magpies in the future if he were to move there now.
