A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United…
Following claims Manchester United are interested in Real Madrid defender Pepe, the Portuguese star’s teammate Raphael Varane has now found himself back in the rumour mill.
The Daily Star claims United are one of the clubs monitoring the young centre-back, with both Pepe and Sergio Ramos said to be closing in on new deals.
Varane is also said to be attracting interest from Chelsea, whose manager Jose Mourinho knows him well, but their defence is in far less need of strengthening than United’s.
In other news, former United assistant manager Mike Phelan claims Cristiano Ronaldo would listen if United came calling once more.
In comments published by IBTimes UK, Phelan said, “Ronaldo loved his time at Manchester United and, if Manchester United were interested in him again, then he would listen to that because part of his career has come through Man United.”
However, he went on to cite Madrid’s recent success as a huge reason why the Portuguese international is unlikely to move on at this time.
