Prior to his summer switch to Roma, Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman was regularly linked with a move to Manchester United.
Seen as something of the complete midfielder, surely a move for the Holland international was only a matter of time for a club in need of a revamp in that area of the field.
But instead he moved to Serie A and ultimately proved just how good he is with a series of outstanding performances that helped his new club to the top of the Italian league (although they currently reside in second).
Given Strootman’s impressive showings, it is no surprise that United have again been linked with the player. But the Dutchman’s agent has dismissed any suggestion that the 23-year-old will leave Italy so soon after arriving.
Speaking to Sky Sports, agent Chiel Dekker said, “Kevin is very happy in Rome and his intention is to stay here for a long time.
“They have started a project and a new team and he has adapted well to his new club.”
In truth, if David Moyes really wanted Strootman, he should have moved for him when he had the chance – for considerably less than he paid for Marouane Fellaini.
There may be better news as United pursue Brazilian playmaker Everton Ribeiro, with the the Cruzeiro player believing he would excel at Old Trafford.
The Express picks up on quotes from the player suggesting he is ready for a move to Old Trafford.
“I would fit in any part of the midfield. I would do well as a playmaker to support the attack. It would be great to play alongside Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.”
That is all well and good, but if he was really on his way to United, would he be talking so much?
