A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United…
According to a report from the Daily Star, Manchester United feel betrayed after one of their top summer transfer targets – Sergio Ramos – looks set for contract talks at Real Madrid.
The Spanish international was heavily linked with United this summer and the club reportedly felt they had a realistic chance of signing him, but the newspaper cites an unnamed source which suggests Louis van Gaal’s side now feels the centre-back was using their interest to get a better deal at the Bernabeu.
In truth United’s move for Ramos was always unlikely given his importance to Real and the fee it would have taken to sign him.
Speaking of defenders, the Manchester Evening News claims United will not be bidding for Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi this summer despite reports to the contrary.
The Argentine international is another player to be regularly linked with United but the MEN claims the club have no intention of moving for either him or another rumour mill favourite, Nicolas Gaitan.
And finally, the Mirror claims United winger Ashley Young is a target for Tottenham Hotspur after they were priced out of a move for Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie.
The England international has just a year remaining on his current contract but remains a firm van Gaal favourite at Old Trafford.
