Anthony Martial scored United’s first goal during their 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor yesterday, and the Frenchman’s goal proved to be quite an expensive one for the Red Devils, as reported by the Express.

The 21-year-old moved to Old Trafford from Monaco in September 2015, for a flat fee of £36 million, that could eventually rise to £63 million, dependant on various clauses inserted into the deal.

One of those clauses was that the three-time Champions League winners would have to pay the Ligue 1 outfit £8.5 million if and when he reached the 25 goal milestone for United.

Martial obviously triggered that clause yesterday, but there are two more clauses, which could see the eventual amount paid to Monaco rise to over £60 million.

If the speedy striker earns 25 or more caps for France, United will have to fork out another £8.5 million. He is currently on 15, so the triggering of that particular clause seems to be a matter of when and not if.

Finally, the Red Devils will have to pay Monaco a further £10 million if Martial is shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or, as reported by the Express.

And whilst is is debatable as to whether the 21-year-old is worth that kind of money, he certainly has the potential to become one of the world’s best players.

Only time will tell if he goes on to reach the very top.
