David De Gea took aim at Arsenal last night for not having to play a midweek fixture as Manchester United star Casemiro will now miss Sunday’s clash against the Gunners having picked up a yellow card suspension.
Speaking to Sky Sports via the Daily Mail, the former Spanish international revealed that the former Real Madrid star will be a huge miss this weekend as United travel to north London to face Arsenal, with a win for Mikel Arteta’s side taking them 11 points clear of the Red Devils in third.
As well as saying Casemiro’s suspension will be a big loss, De Gea managed to somehow take a sly dig at Arsenal for not having to play a midweek fixture despite United being one of just four clubs playing an extra game this week, with Manchester City facing Tottenham tonight.
De Gea said: “It’s a big blow to lose Casemiro for Sunday. I don’t get why Arsenal don’t play as we have to play in the same week and they don’t. Now we are missing one of our best players. I don’t understand. Now we miss him for a big game and it is a big loss for us.”
Indeed, De Gea’s complaints have some weight to them given how condensed the Premier League season is. However, to signal out Arsenal is petty, to say the least, and continues an unwanted narrative that the north London side are targeted unlike any other top club in the country.
And with Arsenal now top, these unwanted criticisms have continued to make headlines, with De Gea now the next key figure in the game to needlessly take aim at the Gunners as a way to cover the main story here, that being that Arteta’s side can make a huge statement on Sunday with Casemiro out through suspension.
