Danny Rose has admitted his openness to departing Tottenham, and here is how Manchester United should approach a deal.
Danny Rose, 27, has dropped a bombshell on Tottenham Hotspur in an exclusive interview with The Sun where the left-back states he ‘wants to win something’ and he ‘knows what he is worth’ pertaining to Spurs’ lack of trophies and current wage structure.
The England international also said ‘he will play up North’ – reigniting interest from long-term admirers and Premier League rivals Manchester United.
Signing Rose would address one of The Red Devil’s only problem areas; finding a consistent top-quality left-back especially one that is left-footed.
This would be an improvement on fielding any from the right footed and inconsistent Ashley Young and Matteo Darmian or Luke Shaw, whose fitness issues prevent him from sustaining a good level of performances and hence a place in the team.
The Luke Shaw situation has been rumbling for a while at Old Trafford – with manager Jose Mourinho stating ‘he is a long way behind’ in terms of training, focus and ambition.
So why would Mauricio Pochettino want Shaw as a replacement? They worked together to excellent effect whilst at Southampton, the Argentine manager knows exactly what the 22-year-old is capable of and how to realise those heights.
The swap would satisfy Manchester United’s constant craving for big signings, all the while not necessarily weakening Pochettino’s squad by doing so.
Additionally, Rose’s comments display the feelings of a clearly discontent man – and while he may or may not represent the feelings of the other players, the unhappiness that lingers could transmit to his teammates and contribute to a negative atmosphere. Letting him leave prevents this.
