Chelsea should be wary of losing Dominic Solanke to Manchester United.
Dominic Solanke
Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke’s long running contract dispute is soon set to come to a head, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.
The Sun report several sides are interested in snapping up the young striker who fired England’s under-17s to European Championship glory in 2015.
His contract dispute has seen him fall down the pecking order, with Tammy Abraham emerging as a talent with as much if not more potential.
Yet Chelsea will not want to let him leave, and should be concerned about Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United making a move.
England’s Dominic Solanke
Mourinho is a manager who rates Solanke highly, and handed him his full Chelsea debut in a Champions League match.
Speaking to Get West London in 2015 he warned against sending the striker on loan, stating he needed to stay at Chelsea to develop with the first team, even naming him on the bench in Premier League matches.
Last season he was loaned to Vitesse Arnhem anyway, where he gained regular first team football, and this season is back with the under-23s, and has played only once.
Dominic Solanke scores for Chelsea
At just 19, Solanke has huge potential, scoring 19 goals at youth level for England already.
His record in the UEFA Youth League speaks for itself, 12 goals and six assists in 11 games, even leading Chelsea to winning the trophy.
He is known to United under-18s coach Kieran McKenna too, having fired the goals which knocked his Tottenham team out of the FA Youth Cup a couple of years ago.
If Solanke is up for grabs, the Red Devils could become serious contenders.
Mourinho told The Mirror in 2014 he was confident Solanke could become a senior England international and spoke of his determination to make it happen.
Now he could have an opportunity to continue that work. If he went to United, he could haunt Chelsea for years to come.
