A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United…

Manchester United’s summer signing Daley Blind has been speaking to the Sun about his hopes for next season.

The Netherlands international arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax in a £14million deal and has proved to be a versatile and effective player for Louis van Gaal.

That said, he has not been able to help his new side to silverware in his debut campaign; something he hopes to changes next year.

“I think we will compete for trophies next season because a club like United has to be fighting,” Blind said.

“We want to win the league, of course, that’s the main thing.”

United’s poor start to the campaign ensured that would not be an option this season, but with the right summer additions there is every chance they can reclaim a title they have not won for two years now.

In other news, the Manchester Evening News reports that United are concerned Ilkay Gundogan’s imminent departure from Borussia Dortmund will prevent them from signing centre-back Mats Hummels this summer.

Gundogan has announced he will move on, and the report cites the fact that Dortmund are in the habit of only selling one star player every year as a reason to be concerned about Hummels.

Both players would considerably strengthen United’s squad but there is a big question mark over whether they will sign one of them, let alone both.
