Newcastle United are interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson in the January transfer window, according to The Manchester Evening News.

The report has claimed that Newcastle are planning to make a loan bid for the 24-year-old England international goalkeeper.

The Magpies are also trying to sign attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard, who can play as a winger as well and is out of contract at Manchester United at the end of the season.

Do Newcastle need Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson?

In our view, Newcastle do not need to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Henderson, even on a loan deal.

We do not think that Henderson is a player that Newcastle should be signing at all before the January transfer window closes on Monday.

Yes, the 24-year-old is a very good goalkeeper, but Newcastle manager Eddie Howe does have options between the posts.

Martin Dubrabvka, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman are the three main goalkeepers at Newcastle.

Dubrabvka is the first choice between the posts.

Yes, Dubrabvka does make mistakes, but if Henderson were to join, would he made Newcastle that much better at the back?
