Manchester United and Tottenham have avoided doing business recently.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have not done business since Dimitar Berbatov’s 2008 transfer which left the North London side losing out.
It has not been for United’s lack of trying, with a huge bid for Gareth Bale turned down before he joined Real Madrid, while their overtures for Harry Kane have also been flatly dismissed.
Spurs did sell to a rival English side when they let Kyle Walker join Manchester City last summer, so United may fancy their chances 10 years on from the Berbatov transfer.
So it probably is not a good idea for United to anger Tottenham over a separate deal of lesser importance.

United are keen to poach the 16-year-old away before he turns professional.
But this is only likely to harm their chances of signing Alderweireld, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy notoriously difficult to deal with.
He would likely take a dim view of United’s interest in Madueke, and with Alderweireld’s future hanging precariously in the balance, it’s a move they currently should back off from making.
