Ruud Gullit has been quoted by the Daily Express urging Manchester United to sign a striker before the end of the transfer window.
The Dutch legend claims that it’s clear to see that Louis van Gaal’s team don’t have a centre forward, with a current reliance on Wayne Rooney up front.
Gullit claims that Rooney likes to play a deeper role, which allows him to get involved in the build-up play.
“You can see the team does not have a proper striker. Wayne Rooney? He is not a real striker. Rooney wants to be involved in the play, but he cannot be the only man up front,” he said.
Rooney has been quoted by FourFourTwo explaining that it’s up to him to keep his head down and continuing to work hard.
Rooney is feeling the pressure, despite the fact United have only played a few competitive games this season.
He’s stated that he’s gone through similar spells already in his career and is confident that he will come out the other side.
“It’s down to me to keep going. I’ve experienced this before and the goals will come, I know that, and hopefully that day will come on Saturday against Newcastle,” he said.
Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben has been quoted by the Daily Star claiming midfielder Memphis Depay will play a huge part in Manchester United’s season.
Depay has got his goal tally for the season off the mark, with an impressive performance against Club Bruges earlier this week.
Robben feels he’s got it in his locker to make the difference for United over an extended period of time.
“Manchester United will want to get back to winning trophies, and he will be a big part of that,” he said.
