The Daily Star say Manchester United defender Harry Maguire was given a ‘death stare’ by Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson in Monday training – after Maguire ‘booted’ the ball at Henderson ahead of Tuesday’s clash against Wales.

Henderson and Maguire are largely expected to both start for England on Tuesday evening, in a crucial clash against Wales. Not least, because of the rivalry between the two nations. But because, plenty is still at stake in Group B.

England need to avoid a 4-0 defeat to Wales to qualify for the last 16. But of course, England will be keen to win the game and finish top – giving them their best chance of progressing to the quarter-finals. Wales are unlikely to qualify.

Henderson is expected to come in as Gareth Southgate looks to shuffle his pack somewhat. He is likely to be in the XI alongside Maguire. The Star report Maguire tried to play a cross-field pass in training, but got it all wrong.

Under pressure, his effort hit Henderson in the upper-body region. The Star say it as a ‘venemous blow’. Hilariously, and without any aggression towards Maguire, Henderson gave Maguire one of the death stares he is known for.

Clearly, the squad are getting on so well – even after a poor result against the United States – that they feel comfortable enough to give eachother death stares. Maguire has been excellent at this World Cup so far, for England.

Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand agreed, on Vibe with Five, that Maguire was England’s best player against USA. He made a number of crucial interventions, mostly in the air. England could easily have lost to Gregg Berhalter’s side.

But Maguire was rock-solid. His pre-World Cup form was a massive question mark, but his performances in the first two games are proof that Southgate was right to pick him – and start him.
