Arsenal forward Theo Walcott scored two goals against FC Basel last night, as he continued his fine run of form.
Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane
Speaking on ITV Sport, Manchester United legend Roy Keane has dampened talk of Theo Walcott’s fantastic run of form, claiming that the Arsenal man needs to relax and still has a lot to prove, as quoted by the Evening Standard.
Walcott continued his sizzling form with a brace for the Gunners last night in their Champions League game against Swiss outfit FC Basel.
Keane, however, claims that the 27-year-old still has a lot to prove in the game, and highlighted the winter months as a real test for Walcott, as quoted by the Evening Standard:
Arsenal’s Theo Walcott in action
“It’s took him a while to get settled, hasn’t it? Listen, he’s had a good week, the guy needs to relax, try playing over the next seven, eight or nine months when the real big crunch games come. The crunch games are coming up over the next few months when the cold nights come on, we’ll see maybe half the Arsenal players with gloves on. I wouldn’t be getting carried away with Walcott. He’s got a lot to do. He’s got to do it over the next year or two.”
Despite the Republic of Ireland assistant’s words, there can be no doubt that Walcott has made vast improvements from last season, both mentally and physically.
Arsenal’s Theo Walcott celebrates scoring their second goal
A major contributing factor to his problems in the past at the Emirates has been the fact that he hasn’t had a position that he could call his own.
With he way he has played so far this season, he is beginning to make that right-wing slot his very own, and in seven games for Arsenal this term he has scored five goals and notched an assist.
Next up for Arsene Wenger’s men is a trip to Turf Moor on Sunday to take on Burnley.
