The latest Manchester United news, views and rumours ahead of their Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday.
Phil Jones
Louis van Gaal has been handed a key fitness boost with defender Phil Jones returning to first-team training.
The Manchester United man will not feature against Liverpool this weekend but could be back in contention for a starting place thereafter.
Wayne Rooney
Meanwhile, Barcelona legend Xavi feels Man United captain Wayne Rooney would have fitted in perfectly at the Catalan club.
“Wayne was very complimentary about the way Barcelona play,” the Spaniard told Shortlist Magazine.
“He would have fitted into our style of play no problem but Manchester United would never have wanted to let one of the best players in the world leave.
“He’s still the player who makes things happen for them.”
Joe Allen
Elsewhere, Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen is looking for a repeat of the club’s victory at Manchester United last season – despite their woeful current form.
“We had a fantastic result there last season, so we’ll be looking to draw some confidence and inspiration from that performance and we’ll go there and try to get the win,” he told Liverpool’s official website.
