Club legend Peter Schmeichel has hailed the versatility of Manchester United’s attacking options on the club’s official website. In 1999, United boasted the fab four of Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the big Dane believes that Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck will be more creative tactically.
Tom Cleverley has told Manchester Evening News how he wants to add goals to his game. The midfielder is yet to score a competitive goal for United but wants to put this right as he looks to become the eventual replacement for Paul Scholes.
Talk Sport are reporting that Juventus are set to hijack fellow Italian club Fiorentina’s bid to sign striker Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian was set to arrive at Fiorentina today to seal a move but he did not arrive at his expected time and it is understood that he may of had his head turned by Italian champions, Juventus who are able to offer him a higher salary.
The Sun today reported how striker Wayne Rooney took to Twitter to tell the world he will bounce back from the horrific injury he sustained during United’s 3-2 victory over Fulham at the weekend. The 26-year-old posed with a thumbs up whilst wearing a T-shirt with a message in Latin printed on it – the message translated to “Courage becomes greater through a wound” – Manchester United fans will hope so…
Meanwhile, the Mirror discuss how Rooney is fearing being sold for £40 million after his relationship has broken down with manager Sir Alex Ferguson. With Robin van Persie now at the club, Rooney is no-longer the main man at Old Trafford and with the likes of Welbeck and Hernandez, Sir Alex feels he has enough to cope without the England striker. However the player vented his frustration on Twitter this evening describing the sale talk as ‘absolute rubbish‘, adding #heretostay
