The Independent discuss how Wayne Rooney’s injury could scupper Dimitar Berbatov’s hopes of leaving the club for Fiorentina. Rooney is expected to be out for four weeks but if there turns out to be muscle damage then this could be doubled – of that’s the case then Ferguson will more than likely want to keep Berbatov in reserve and not accept the £5 million the Italian club are offering for the player.
Wayne Rooney is also making the news in the Sun as it is reported that Man United are ready to cash in on the striker unless he bucks his ideas up. The Red Devils would want £50 million for the player though but it is believed that a number of the top-European clubs who could afford him are not interested in the England international. Manchester City, the only other club wo would be able to afford his services believe that neighbours United would never sell to them.
Sir Alex Ferguson has banned the squads younger players from driving Chevrolet’s iconic Corvette. The club have recently agreed a multi-million-pound sponsorship deal with the car manufacturer and after Chevrolet offered the United first-team a choice of luxury cars, Sir Alex intervened and put a stop to any player under the age of 23 ordering a sporty model. ESPN report that Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, 24 has been named in Michael O’Neil’s first competitive squad for Northern Ireland to face Russia and Luxembourg. After having ankle-surgery at the end of last season, Evans has not featured yet this campaign but was on the bench for Saturday’s 3-2 home win against Fulham.
A doubts grow over the future of Portuguese midfielder Nani, Goal.com explain how he wants showdown talks with the club and will demand a £5 million exit fee if he is to leave Old Trafford this summer. Nani is said to be a target for Russian club Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Meanwhile it has been reported in the Portuguese press that Manchester United could yet renew their interest in Nicolas Gaitan. The Telegraph reported several months ago that the deal was likely to be a certainty this summer, but United have prioritised other areas to strengthen. Portuguese paper O Jogo claims the deal could happen because of Benfica’s need to raise funds.

Much is expected of the youngster after he earned a place in the United first-team last season and after he impressed for Team GB at London 2012.
